What you are buying
A "spot" is a digital item: your name and message on the live wall and, from the Co-Pilot tier up, your photo, badge and place in the Hall of Fame ranking. It goes live right after payment (photos after a quick review). It is not a charitable donation, not an investment and not tax-deductible. It gives you no ownership of, or claim to, any car, device or other item.
Where the money goes
- % of every purchase goes to .
- Payment processor fees are deducted from what the counter shows.
- The main goal is to buy Tesla's Roadster (Performance trim), set at $350,000. The final price is not announced, so the goal includes a safety margin for the price, taxes and registration. At $50,000 the owner places Tesla's reservation ($5,000 now, $45,000 within 10 days), which holds a place in line and counts toward the price. The car is not yet for sale and its delivery is not guaranteed. Whether Tesla refunds a reservation depends on Tesla's own reservation agreement.
- Once the car goal is reached, every further euro goes to the small goals on the roadmap, in order (a year of the best AI, the driver's license, a local AI machine, a year of writing). Money left over after the car is paid (the margin) goes to those goals too. If the car goal is not reached by a date announced on the site, or the car can't be bought, the money received so far (including any reservation Tesla refunds) goes to those same small goals, in the same order, as far as it goes. They are personal goals of the owner. No refunds are due in that case.
Refunds
Spots are delivered instantly, so purchases are generally non-refundable. If you were charged twice, charged by mistake, or your spot did not appear, email the address above and it will be fixed or refunded. By buying, you agree that delivery starts immediately and, where the law allows, that you give up the right to withdraw from a digital purchase once it is delivered.
What you may put on the wall
Names, messages and photos must not be illegal, hateful, sexual, or about someone else without their permission. Photos are reviewed before they appear. Entries that break these rules can be hidden or removed, and the purchase refunded.
The banner above the wall
The banner slot above the wall is sold in a weekly auction. Bidding opens on Monday at 8 am and ends on Sunday at 8 pm (New York time). It starts at $5 and each new bid must beat the highest one by at least 10% (and at least $1). Bids are in US dollars. Placing a bid puts a hold on your card for the amount: it is not a charge. When the auction ends, the highest bid that the owner has approved is charged and its banner is shown for one week, until the next auction ends. Every other hold is released, including bids that were outbid, refused or not reviewed in time; your bank decides how fast a released hold disappears from your statement. The winning bid is not refundable, is not a charitable donation or an investment, and % of it goes to charity like every purchase. A banner does not come with a square on the wall. The picture is 1200 × 300 pixels and is shown at that shape on every screen, so it is small on a phone. The banner (picture, text and link) is shown only after the owner has reviewed it, and it may be refused, or removed during its week with the winning bid refunded, if it is illegal, adult, hateful, deceptive, a scam, or about gambling or trading, or if its link goes somewhere unsafe. Banners are labelled "Sponsored". The owner does not endorse what advertisers promote.
Your data
- Public: the name, message and (approved) photo you enter, and the amount you paid. Anyone can see them.
- Private: your email is collected by Stripe at checkout. This site stores it only as a one-way hash, used to add up your purchases for the ranking. It is never shown.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. Card details never touch this site.
- Photos you upload but do not buy with are deleted after 24 hours.
- X (Twitter): if you buy a Driver or Legend spot, the owner posts a thank-you on the project's X account with your display name and, if you gave one, your X handle (the post is reviewed first). Ask at the email above and it will be deleted.
- To have your entry, photo or data removed, email the address above. It will be done promptly.
